Bunn & Raigel
Constructed in 1851 by Bunn, Raiguel & Company, importers of silks, 135-137 N. 3rd Street is a five-story Italianate-style brownstone in Philadelphia's Old City. Neglected for years, it underwent extensive rehabilitation starting in 2013. Former warehouses were converted into sixteen one-bedroom apartments with ground-floor retail spaces.
The main challenge was restoring the deteriorated brownstone façade, accomplished through mortar patches and Dutchmen repairs. New wood windows matched the original design, and the original storefront was fully restored, with repaired cast iron piers and new glazed wood doors. This crucial restoration project truly preserved the building's historic charm and significance.
